It takes only an hour or two a week to give someone the gift of friendship – simply by calling, visiting, listening, remembering a birthday, and being there to lend a helping hand.
Friendly Visitors commit to six months of weekly visits, with some visiting relationships now going on four years. We match friendly visitor volunteers with frail and homebound seniors in 19 Brooklyn neighborhoods.
Volunteers are interviewed, receive appropriate training, and are then matched with requests from older adults. Once a match is made, we continue to monitor the relationship, offering guidance and advice.
JUNE 2020 UPDATE – Thank you for your interest in the Friendly Visiting Program! Due to a high level of interest in our program there is currently a wait-list for new volunteers to be processed and matched. If you are interested in becoming a Friendly Visitor in the next 1-3 months please fill out our volunteer application and you will receive an email from the Friendly Visiting Coordinator confirming your place on the wait-list, and we will let you know let you know when we have scheduled our next Friendly Visiting Volunteer Training.
